It was recently announced that one of Nintendo’s most iconic franchises is in the earliest stages of development for a live action series, produced by Netflix. They described the series as “Game of Thrones for the family audience.” Honestly I thought “Game of Thrones” and “family audience” were words I’d never see together, but there we have it. by the IWG Games Team Nintendo President and CEO, Satoru Iwata, announced in their third quarter financial results briefing; amiibos will be able to unlock sections of classic NES and SNES games via a free app coming to the Wii U and scheduled for release in the first half of 2015. by Jamie Lambert Shadow Realms, a new IP that was first revealed at Gamescom last year, has been in development at Austin BioWare studios for quite some time. It isn’t like Bioware to create new IPs – They tend to stick very closely to formulas that they know work well. Dragon Age was the most recent IP that they created, and became insanely popular. This can be seen in the sales figures of Dragon Age: Inquisition, and I can confirm that it is fantastic. But after 6 months since it’s big reveal, after releasing more and more info about the game, BioWare sadly decided to drop development on Shadow Realms. by Vanessa Hague Transistor is free this month for PS Plus subscribers on PS4 and if you haven't already, I thoroughly recommend downloading it and giving it a try. I'll say this right off the bat, the slightly strange "turn based" combat system won't be for everyone (I say strange because it isn't turn based in say, the Paper Mario-esque sense) and it does have a short playtime (you'll be done with your first playthrough in just a few hours, but hey it's free!). However, if you can stick with it as I did, the combat, along with the game's gorgeous design and intriguing story, will grow on you and you might just end up loving it. by the IWG Games Team Games aren't exactly awash with couples. On the main, the hero in any game tends to walk their path alone and quite frankly any time the main character does get an opportunity to meet someone nice, it usually gets in the way of all the action. Now granted, there's always Mario and Peach, but those two have been together so long now I suspect the romance is dead these days. Still, despite their rarity, there are some truly heart-warming couples within some of our favourite games. Here are some of our favourites. by Maia Jern I have fallen in love with many a fictional character over the years. People in books, films and TV shows have filled my head. I have been in love with Wednesday Addams, Sherlock Holmes, and Draco Malfoy. But this is the first time I’ve fallen in love with a video game character. I shouldn’t be the one to tell you about it, though. I will let Neria, the Elven mage, tell you herself. by Ben Mapp So the first trailer for the new Hitman movie (developed by 20th Century Fox), a total reboot since the 2007 adaptation was so damn terrible, has finally been revealed. The film is called Hitman: Agent 47 and stars Homeland's Rupert Friend as the titular Agent 47 opposite Star Trek's Zachary Quinto and Oldboy's Hannah Ware in an original story about the bar-coded, bald-headed assassin. It's easy to be lured into the excitement and franchise re-invigoration that the trailer promises, but there are a few things to consider here. by Luke Kirby Following the events of the introductory episode, I have been eager to sink my teeth into episode two of Telltale’s adaptation of one of my favourite TV series. After the last instalment I had to pick up my jaw from the floor as I sat in stunned silence for quite some time. by Reece Merryweather-Brown Recently BioWare announced that the new Mass Effect title is “in the middle of development.” Players of the series rejoiced; maybe this game would finally fix the hole many fan’s heart’s had sustained after Mass Effect 3’s less than spectacular and resounding ending. Further still, maybe this game will borrow a lot of the lessons learned from its recently and immensely successful Dragon Age: Inquisition. by Luke Kirby Developed by one of my favourite studios Intelligent Systems’ Code Name S.T.E.A.M (standing for; Strike Team Eliminating the Alien Menace) is set for release on the 15th May this year, while the US gets the full game over two months earlier with a 13th March release. Those interested in the game will be happy to know that there is a demo available for download on the e-shop in case you want to see how it plays and if this is a game you’d want to purchase on release… which I will very much be doing. |
