I have fallen in love with many a fictional character over the years. People in books, films and TV shows have filled my head. I have been in love with Wednesday Addams, Sherlock Holmes, and Draco Malfoy. But this is the first time I’ve fallen in love with a video game character. I shouldn’t be the one to tell you about it, though. I will let Neria, the Elven mage, tell you herself.
I made do, of course. I’m sure the Chantry expects a bunch of teenagers in close quarters to keep their hands to themselves, but these expectations are not altogether realistic. I had fun with some of those boys, but fun was all it was. But the Templars… Now, there were real men. They were only to be watched from afar, of course. I flirted with Cullen for a while, because it was fun to see him blush, but really he was too pious for me, better to look at than to talk to. And his piety kept him from acting on his far too obvious feelings for me.
We were thrown together. Things happened so quickly, from our first meeting at Ostagar, to standing alone, the only two Grey Wardens left in Ferelden. Worse, perhaps, for him than for me. The Wardens were his family. He was so vulnerable, though he would grin and bear it, and I wanted more than anything to comfort him and make him smile.
He speaks always with good humour. He makes jokes bordering on the inappropriate, but he is also a gentleman, and he cares more about my feelings than he does his own. From the very beginning, he showed me kindness, but now he shows me love. He holds me at night, kisses me in the day. He throws glances my way when he thinks that I can’t see. He is a gentle, caring lover, but passionate also, and I burn for him. I cannot stand next to him and not touch him. I cannot see his face and not smile.
There is a spring in my step whenever I see him, and I cannot imagine my life without him. I know that we could both die, but I also know, with every fibre of my being, that I would sacrifice myself without a single thought if it meant that he could live. He is everything. I will fight every battle, and win them, for him, just as he will for me. I love him, and I always will.
Happy Valentine's Day!
