Tyrion Lannister Will Remember That: Telltales does Game of Thrones

If you've been keeping updated with all things Westeros in the last month you'll remember that Telltale Games are turning their not inconsiderable talent to current fantasy behemoth, Game of Thrones. The digital world of Westeros will be delivered, as we might expect, in an episodic form, and like The Walking Dead will run concurrently with the the television show that is now in its fourth series.

Telltale have signed a multi-year deal with HBO, starting with the first episode some time in 2014. There's no details on gameplay yet, but the New York Times has reported that George R R. Martin's Assistant, Ty Corey Franck, has been assigned as a story consultant. Presumably a person with a great deal of access to Iron Throne lore, the news bodes well for a detail-rich interpretation of the fight for the Seven Kingdoms. Telltale's addition to The Walking Dead canon slotted between the television and comic book series nicely by creating new characters living within the same world; we may see the same thing with new members of the many houses that appear throughout A Song of Fire and Ice. We can only hope that there is an opportunity to trade a few barbs with the more unpleasant members of the Lannister clan.

The new episodes will appear on home consoles, PC and Mac, and mobile devices. With the availability of The Walking Dead on seemingly every possible game-playing device ever, it's safe to say that it won't be hard to find a version of Game of Thrones playable on something that you own. Now everybody stand on a hill in a cloak, and say “A decision is coming” whilst looking brooding. Excellent.
