When it comes to new game releases I am always weary about any plans for DLC; especially the notion of day one DLC which is unfair in every way, so when I heard about CD Projekt releasing sixteen pieces of DLC completely free for their upcoming title The Witcher III: Wild Hunt they immediately shot up to one of my favourite developers.
"I'm saying we aren't giving out huge stuff, we aren't giving tens of hours of storyline here, we are giving small bits of pieces that don't cost a lot. And I think people would feel better about our game, and, so, they will enjoy the adventure even more."
Oddly enough a piece of DLC in the expansion is estimated to add an extra 10 hours of gameplay. The main point that they were trying to make is that small pieces of DLC shouldn’t have to be bought and they say so in their article with IGN, however there was no indication of an expansion pass at the time.
“Heart of the Stone will take Geralt on an all-new 10-hour adventure into the wilds of No Man’s Land and the nooks and alleys of Oxenfurt, where he’ll try to complete a contract from the mysterious Man of Glass. Caught in a thick tangle of deceit, Geralt will need all his cunning and strength to solve the mystery and emerge unscathed.
Blood and Wine, a 20-hour tale that will introduce the all-new in-game region of Toussaint, will take Geralt to a land untainted by war, where an atmosphere of carefree indulgence and knightly ritual masks an ancient, bloody secret.”
Heart of the Stone will be available in October with Blood and Wine being released at some point in 2016. The expansions also offers new gear and foes which to me sound like small pieces of DLC that you shouldn’t have to pay for but what do I know.
I’m not sure how to feel about this considering they are giving away smaller bits of DLC such as horse armour or a Hairstyle Set for Geralt; however I’ve always thought DLC in this vein should be free.
I’d like to hear what you think about this development so please leave some comments in the comment section below.
More DLC than you can shake a router at.
