Fans of George R.R Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire volumes as well as its TV adaptation (HBO's Game of Thrones) may be aware of the upcoming game produced by Telltale Games that is aptly titled Game of Thrones. Telltale have released details concerning their new endeavor with the game taking place after the events at the end of Season Three… Allow me some time to re-experience those feelings I felt at the end of that season and right before the start of Season Five.
I’m looking forward to the idea of controlling the choices of these five individuals that all hail from the same house for several reasons. One thing Telltale is fantastic at is developing characters (cite The Walking Dead &The Wolf Among Us), creating an amazing story telling experience and with their Game of Thrones adaptation I feel there are endless possibilities for plots, betrayal and just general George R.R. Martin-like plot twists. Also the decisions you make from the perspective of one character “can ripple out to affect the rest of House Forrester.” which is an awesome yet truly terrifying notion, the idea of me accidentally getting one of my other characters murdered is somewhat nerve wracking… Unless they’re a dick of course. In addition that it’s the fact that you’re a small house that I think decision making will feel all the more important. If in this game we were given the role of members of House Stark it would seem obvious that your main intent would be to destroy the Lannisters. However playing such a small house the idea of survival seems to be crucial, mind you I would never bend the knee to the Lannisters.
In a situation, which I think is very likely, do you submit to the much more powerful house and throw away your loyalty in order to survive? Or do you stand firm and suffer the possibility of having House Forrester wiped from existence? I’m expecting situations like this to arise that leave me swearing about the decisions that need be made and whether my choice was for my benefit or that of House Forrester.
Winter is coming sooner than anticipated with the premiere episode Iron From Ice (one of six episodes) coming to us before then end of the year which is fantastic news as I’ve been eager for my fix of one; more content from Telltale and two; more Game of Thrones.
Regardless of what may come I eagerly await Telltale’s newest story.
