By this stage of development, fans (myself included) are beginning to await every single update regarding Star Citizen with baited breath. For every single new ship displayed or new feature announced we get just that little bit more ravenous for the universe that awaits us. So imagine our outright frenzy when Cloud Imperium Games finally got a chance to show off their First Person Shooter module in its full glory at this weekend's PAX, in Australia.
However, while the game has always grabbed the attention of space sim fanatics for the ability to fly, shoot and trade, it is the additions that Roberts has kept on adding that have kept fans coming back for more. Most recently, is the demo for an FPS module that allows gamers to leave the cockpit and fight in the best traditions of Halo or Destiny. Actually, as it happens, just looking at the images from the games HUD, brings to mind memories of Metroid Prime's in helmet view with the glorious feeling of actually wearing a helmet; not surprising, given the games Occulus Rift compatability.
It will still be some time before Star Citizen is fully completed, if it ever will be. As of yet it has become a project that seems to continually yield more fruit to sustain us, but I can easily foresee it as a project that will continue to grow for as long as Chris Roberts has the funding to do so. Certainly however, the initial versions release will be approaching us sooner rather than later, with an intended release date of 2016 to 2017. By then, who can tell just how good the game will be. The intention is to create a procedurally generated, multiplayer masterpiece, that will allow gamers to be whoever they want to be in the universe. Want to be a roguish trader who gets in and out of trouble with the law? Sure thing. Military pilot? Go for it. Ships are even being designed with specialisations in mind for players to be everything from bounty hunters to search and rescue experts. In the end, we'll have to wait and see what will end up being included, but with the passion of fans and developers alike, this will be a game that will have a lot of support and love behind it... And I for one, can't wait.
