Recently it was announced that Square Enix will be re-releasing United Front Games’ Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition for Xbox One, PS4 and Windows PC. The Definitive Edition will feature the main game as well as its DLC which will be available on October 14th.
So where’s the incentive to play? I find it very unlikely I’ll be purchasing the Definitive Edition since I got what I wanted out of the 360 version. This also applies with Metro: Redux, as I’ve played both on the PC and they looked amazing, leaving me with even less reason to pick up a copy.
Yet this isn’t the thing that bothers me. It might be because the “next gen” consoles lack content, as 2015 is being greedy and taking a fair amount of releases to itself. I didn’t buy a PS4 so I could play “remastered” editions of games I played a year or two ago. Hopefully this is the last of these “Definitive Editions” because I'd much rather see developers bring me something new.
It’s highly likely that there won’t be many more remakes of games from the previous generation for now, but I really do hope there is more focus placed on creating new IPs and franchises for the new consoles or bringing classics to this new generation.
