It's no news to say that Ratchet & Clank is getting the big screen treatment next year, but accompanying the new film which, although made by Insomniac Games (the same developer who begun the series all those years ago), oddly takes place in a totally separate continuity to the one gamers are so familiar with.
It's no news to say that Ratchet & Clank is getting the big screen treatment next year, but accompanying the new film which, although made by Insomniac Games (the same developer who begun the series all those years ago), oddly takes place in a totally separate continuity to the one gamers are so familiar with.
The film itself serves as a reboot for the animated characters in an original story, none of whom have undergone any physical change other than slight graphical enhancement, showing how the two unlikely galactic saviours came to be close friends. The game will either follow that storyline or take place after its narrative, but tie closely in to its events. The movie trailer shown a year ago at E3 didn't give much away in terms of storyline, and came across to be aimed more at children than at a broader family audience. The second trailer reveals that the satirical, maturer element of the series is still very much an important part of the Ratchet & Clank brand.

Thankfully it seems to be taking a more traditional route than the previous Ratchet & Clank Into The Nexus installment, basing much of its level design and gameplay on the original trilogy (even going so far as to recreate samples from the first game). Whilst describing the game as a reboot would be somewhat inaccurate, the game features mostly new content inspired by both the original game and the new movie, meaning that the end product will provide a whole new experience for both old and new fans alike.
