Dead Rising 3 (XBox One)
While I have, and never will be, a fan of Microsoft’s latest pile of slag, I feel obliged to look past the console and focus on the games that have made the [poor] decision to pledge their allegiance to the money-grabbing giant. Dead Rising 3 is one of those titles. Set in the zombie infested area of Los Perdidos, players will take control of young mechanic Nick Ramos. As before players will be able to create and customise weapons, and now vehicles, to do more damage or have better effects on the hordes of undead. The story goes that, again like before, the player has a set amount of time before military action is taken (in this case, a very large explosion) and have to fight for survival and escape before the time runs out. Split into four main sections the players will be let out into a massive open-world experience packed with zombies and other survivors. The visuals look great, and the combat, while a bit predictable, still looks worth it.

Rachet & Clank: Into the Nexus (PS3)
From one exclusive to another, Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus is the twelfth installment in the frankly amazing Ratchet & Clank franchise and the fourth and last installment of the ‘Future’ series. Created by Insomniac games and published by Sony, this game looks like a ton of fun. After a prison break that Ratchet and Clank barely survive, they’re left stranded in an unexplored section of the Universe. Stranded on a nearby planet Yerek the duo will attempt to track down the criminals they were escorting, Vendra and Neftin Prog. Gameplay is far from original, but it is a tried and tested formula for success that has been just as good in all the games that I’ve played as well as its first outing. With all-new gadgets and some much loved favourites returning, it’s looking to be just as fun as all the others.

XCOM: Enemy Within (PS3, XBox 360, PC)
XCOM: Enemy Within is basically a rebranding of XCOM: Enemy Unknown. But, regardless, I felt it should be on here for two reasons. One, it actually brings quite a lot into the old game, and builds upon other key features. And two, I told myself I had to have at least five games* on this list and I was one game short. Enemy Within is a top-down strategy game, with elements of RTS gameplay mixed in. Players will be able to take command of various different soldier types and arrange them into squads and then have those squads act upon the player’s whims. Enemy Within gives the players a new type of element that can be collected on the battlefield called Meld. Meld can be used to create one of two types of soldiers. It can be used to amputate limbs and create bionic counter parts, turning normal humans into what looks like the Mech from District 9. The other option is to use this Meld to create human-alien hybrids. Along with this, the game is generally a lot faster, meaning that the time that takes certain elements of the RTS part of the game to happen is usually decreased, meaning soldiers enter barracks earlier, research takes less time and structures that would normally take ages to accumulate are in your base within 1 hour of play. All in all, while it may not be a massive change, it just improves on a game that many players that already loved.

Call of Duty: Ghosts (PS4, PS3, XBox One, XBox 360, PC)
Yes, that’s right, possibly the biggest FPS ever is back. Oh you weren’t surprised? Yeah, me neither. But regardless, it is still possibly the biggest FPS and so deserves some recognition. Obviously trying to appeal to all those who got butt-hurt when they realised the deceased Ghost in MW3 was untrue they decided to give them what they wanted. Well, sort of. An unknown group known only as ‘the Federation’ attack and take over a US military station and then kinetically bombard the US. After crippling the state, the Federation then proceed to invade and take over the US. The story starts off in 2023, where the Federation has emerged as the new global superpower. As the American government collapses they send out the Ghosts, a team of elite special forces to take back what’s left of America and push out the invaders. Players will take control of ‘Mesh’, the codename for the protagonist which Infinity Ward assured us will be changed. You get to control a dog as well, how cool is that? Oh and, brace yourself, that dog’s going to die. It’s not a spoiler, it’s a guaranteed prediction.
