With the recent Saints Row IV and Borderlands remaster coming up for release in March, it seems that more and more games these days are getting the old revamp with some spanky new HD texturing. They're basically the same games that we've bought before but with slightly nicer graphics.
If more people buy remasters, this could lead to more and more releases of games we've already purchased previously. Remember how the big industry giants said that we couldn't play PS3 and Xbox 360 games on the new consoles? Yes, this might be down to a genuine difference in hardware, but it has also allowed the remaster to slowly raise through the ranks and become somewhat of a staple on both the PS4 and Xbox One.
Even the GTA V remaster with it's first person mode did nothing to change the story, the main campaign remained the same; there were no new missions so there was no real change in play time. If the industry is going to go fully down the remaster route, which it might, perhaps they could look into adding more features and more content to actually make it feel like we're properly getting our money's worth.
Honest improvements or sheer greed?
