This feature is not to be confused with the upcoming Halo TV series, which is described as a separate project altogether. The lone feature will be directed by Sergio Mimica-Gezzan whose portfolio includes numerous episodes of the reimagined and critcally-acclaimed 2003 Battlestar Galactica series as well as a couple of episodes of 2006's Heroes. Other popular series' he has directed for include Prison Break, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and Falling Skies. He had also served as Assistant Director to Steven Spielberg on a number of projects, and it has been confirmed that legendary sci-fi director Ridley Scott (Aliens, Blade Runner) will be involved as Executive Producer.
Microsoft has been looking to extend the Halo franchise into other areas for a long time now, but what both Halo projects illustrate is the transition the gaming industry is currently going through as a whole, transitioning popular titles straight from interactive projects to more visual mediums in a way that has never been done on such a large scale before. Smaller projects have come and gone over the years, such as Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn. Halo will be joining such upcoming adaptations such as Assassin's Creed, Ratchet & Clank, Sly Cooper and The Last of Us.
The feature will be produced by Ridley Scott's own Scott Free Productions, 343 Industries and Microsoft Entertainment Studios and its expected release is later this year.
