There's no arguing that 2011's Deus EX: Human Revolution was a really well-made prequel/reboot of the Deus Ex franchise by Square Enix, reinvigorating the series with new life (as they later did with Tomb Raider in 2013) and stirring interest in a cyberpunk world split between two rival factions, those of normal humans and those of their augmented counterparts. Well, it's been nearly four years and Square Enix are finally wheeling out the license for another go, and this time it's coming for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. Curiously, whilst its predecessor found a home on Wii U, its sequel will likely not be coming to Nintendo's latest console.
Following on from the events of the previous game, Jensen becomes a part of an international police force dedicated to hunting down augmented terrorist cells. Like with the others in the series, Jensen's missions will most likely reveal a deeper conspiracy which he must then nip in the bud before it blossoms into an all-out war. The gameplay looks to build on the setup of Human Revolution, fusing an exploratory FPS with RPG and stealth elements, allowing players to upgrade themselves through Jensen's augments, as well as update their tools and weaponry throughout. It is unknown at the moment whether or not there will be a multiplayer option worked in but, if we look at Square Enix's record concerning their more recent titles, such as Tomb Raider and Nosgoth (one of which has a multiplayer component, whereas the other is wholly multiplayer) as well as the current climate for online gaming as it stands, it is likely that one will feature in Mankind Divided (probably between teams of augmented humans and their terrorist opponents). The source of the initial leak, a Russian gaming website known as Kanobu, also revealed a number of screenshots and confirmed that Mankind Divided will not allow players to import their save games from Human Revolution, despite being a direct follow-up.
More information on the game's development is revealed today in a special stream, with more details due in next month's Game Informer as well as at E3 in June.
