It can be tough to keep up with all the latest gaming news. So many platforms, so many developers and so little time. Fortunately, we here at the games section like to keep our eyes on all the latest announcements and rumours regarding our favourite pastime.
Here are some headlines that have most peaked our interest over the past week.
SEGA profits slipping
The year ahead still shows a lot of promise for SEGA regardless, with the highly anticipated Alien: Isolation arriving on shelves in early October; as well as the latest additions to the Sonic franchise in November.
BioShock coming to iOS for Mobile Gaming
With the help of Havok Animation Studios, the know-how behind the original game's innovative physics engine, the team at 2K are working hard to transfer the game to a handheld medium.
In a statement, Brian Waddle, Vice President of Worldwide Sales and Marketing at Havok has said: "Just as BioShock redefined the scope of what a game could and should be, the 2K Games team has proven that mobile devices can go beyond simple apps and offer a wholly mature and complete gaming experience akin to those seen on high end gaming platforms.”
2K is currently aiming for a late-2014 release date for the, now classic, title; when it will be available in the App Store as a premium title
Gaming is actually good for kids
The study, conducted on nearly five thousand children between the ages of ten and fifteen, discovered that the ideal length of time to maintain this positive effect was around an hour per day. Meanwhile, longer stints of gaming were found to be more detrimental to the children's upbringing, however it was admitted that this was likely due to the longer periods proving to be a distraction from other beneficial activities, such as school work and physical exercise.
Indications show PlayStation well ahead of Xbox
At present the combined number of PS3 and PS4's sold this year is 3.5 Million, while Microsoft trails behind with 1.1 Units sold of 360's and Xbox One's. With the highly anticipated release of The Last of Us: Remastered, this gap in sales will no doubt increase, with the possibility of Microsoft pulling ahead again later in the year with the release of the Halo: Master Chief Collection.
Legend of Zelda: Monopoly now available for pre-order
At present the game is available for pre-order in America with a price announced for release at $39.99 (£24). No signs of it coming the European shores yet, but this is one board games we would love to get our hands on!
