It’s taken them over a year but it’s finally happening. Rockstar have announced that in early 2015 the hotly anticipated online heists will be coming to GTA V and they’ve even given us a trailer showing the general gist of what to expect… So far, it’s everything I’ve wanted.
It’s taken them over a year but it’s finally happening. Rockstar have announced that in early 2015 the hotly anticipated online heists will be coming to GTA V and they’ve even given us a trailer showing the general gist of what to expect… So far, it’s everything I’ve wanted.
The minute long trailer opens with a swat team busting out of the back of one of their vans, while two robbers stash their bags full of loot. You then hear GTA V's very own tech guru, Lester, say “I know you’ve been complaining, but you weren’t ready.” The trailer goes onto explaining how you need a crew to pull off a heist and shows us the locations of some of the potential jobs. One seems to be located out to sea where a boat is the target, followed by an armed helicopter shooting at a convoy and a crew entering a bank and much more besides that you can watch here.
As Lester tells us in the opening of the Heists trailer, we weren’t ready… or rather Rockstar underestimated how difficult it would be to pull such a feat. In an interview withIGN Imran Sarwar (GTA Online producer and lead mission designer) explains why Heists took its time; with the answer simply being they found it more difficult to implement than first thought. I’m surprisingly okay with that, seeing as how a lot of triple A titles are released with an awful amount of bugs and glitches (looking at you Ubisoft). Extra time spent to ensure the best experience for the player is ultimately the right way to go about it.
Imran also explains that players will have to be a minimum of rank 12 and the leader of the group must own a high end apartment so that you have room for your planning board… What? Did you think you could rob a bank on the fly? YOU NEED YOUR PLANNING BOARD FOOL!
As for the number of heists that are being launched, there will be “five unique strands involving over twenty missions, which will add over twenty hours of gameplay.” That amount of content is nothing to sneer at, and again, I emphasise that a bit more time spent working on it will only be beneficial to us fans.
On next-gen hardware (guess it’s current gen now) it looks gorgeous and now that it's here Heists is now my main reason to purchase GTA V again for my PS4.

It's been a long time coming but it's finally here. Get a crew together, get a job and make the heist of the century... or possibly get everyone killed. Really, GTA V can get pretty insane after all.
