Grand Theft Auto has a long history of taking the world by storm, and while some titles have been more successful than others it is hard to deny that the franchise has a consistently large fan following. GTA V has been no exception. In fact it can be argued that the only GTA title to top it would be San Andreas. So with the game jumping on the re-release bandwagon and receiving a port to the XBox One and PS4, it could be that we will see just how popular the series has become as we see just how many fans go out to purchase a second helping. However, if the comparisons are anything to go by, I think it's easy to say that the next gen version will be a hit.
Fortunately, this particular re-release looks set to offer us just a little added incentive to part with our hard earned cash, in the for of a new first-person mode; a feature which should assist with the already lawless, and chaotic environment of the game's multiplayer as well as give anti-video game campaigners something new to rally against for our amusement. Certainly, it is something new for the GTA universe, and I must say that it does make me a little more interested in what this game has to offer. It is not often that you get the opportunity to experience a game from a whole new perspective from the one originally envisioned, and given the scope of the game's graphical improvement, it might just be worth the expense.
That being said, there is not a whole lot more that can be said about this re-release other than the improvement in graphics. We already know from past experience that the next gen consoles (PS4 in particular) excel at their graphical capabilities. Graphics, do not a good game make, and it is beginning to seem like some big names in gaming are merely taking the opportunity to create showcase pieces to demonstrate the superiority of the new consoles, rather than taking the time to create something new. Fortunately, this seems to be changing as the run up to Christmas starts to get into full swing.
I have no doubt that this re-release of GTA V will prove to be a hit on 18th November. It offers enough new features that the big fans of the franchise will love it, and you always have to anticipate those unfortunate souls who did not get the joy of owning a copy before hand. It is just a shame that there couldn't be something more about it than the glorious new imagery that has been rendered... However, I, like many others will probably end up owing a copy despite my complaints, which is also exactly why these new re-releases still get sold...
Another day, another re-release...
