Cologne's Gamescom is upon us and Sony has brought us a few new treats, to break up the steady monotony of one of the slower parts of the year for gaming news. With the PlayStation 4 currently well ahead in the console war, however, they can afford to sit back and relax a little, and step away from the more mainstream news.
Though the gameplay itself is not very clear from the trailer shown, it seems to be a new twist on group-control strategy. An interesting art style and an intriguing environment makes this a game to keep an eye out for in the future. This was followed by a short and vague trailer for The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, which appeared to be a horror mystery game in the first person. The clip showed footage of a gimmick which allows the player to see events that caused someone’s death. The footage was not elaborated on at all, so we can only speculate for now. Next up was Volume, by the developer of Thomas Was Alone. A stealth-action game influenced by the likes of the Metal Gear Solid series, Volume looks to be a fun arcade-like stealth game. The voice acting is instantly recognisable, as one of the characters is played by Charlie McDonnell of YouTube fame. A unique art style, some interesting gameplay aspects and nice voice acting definitely draws attention, which is impressive due to the fairly brief length of the trailer.
