In an announcement that will have Browncoats everywhere punching the air in joy, it has been revealed that the upcoming Firefly Online game will feature the voice talent of the entire main cast of the original show. In an announcement that will have Browncoats everywhere punching the air in joy, it has been revealed that the upcoming Firefly Online game will feature the voice talent of the entire main cast of the original show. Firefly Online has been in development for a couple of years now, with the ultimate goal being to create a gaming experience for gamers and Browncoats alike. Since the first tantalizing teaser was shown last year at the SDCC the game's official website has given only glimpses in what we can expect to find in our own Firefly world, but at last we have been shown what is to come; including the fantastic announcement that Nathan Fillion, Gina Torres, Adam Baldwin and the rest of the show's cast will be lending their voices to the game.
With a multitude of ship designs available, your goal as a captain is simple: find a crew, find a job, keep flying. You will get to decide whether you wish to merely haul freight or become more of an outlaw and a big damn hero for those out on rim. If that doesn't take your fancy, then perhaps doing a little side work for the Alliance will. Or when things get really tough you may even find yourself working for the dreaded crime lord Niska, who will once again be played by the brilliant Michael Fairman as he was in the show.
Meanwhile the game promises unique character interactions, with the actions you take having a big impact on your crew. Customization will likewise be a big aspect to the game, with the ability to change the look of your ship and your own Captain.
Personally I cannot wait for this game. The development team has taken on a big job in trying to please one of the most notorious fandoms in the Sci-Fi 'verse, but the look and feel of the game thus far definitely gives the impression that they are building a beautiful playground for us to enjoy. Of course if it does prove to be a let down then I am certain that they will burn in a very special level of hell.
The trailer mainly concentrates on the level of individuality each player can create, but it is more than enough to whet any fan's appetite, particularly given the very special guest that features at the end...
