Ground Zeroes is basically a two hour (or thereabouts) long demo for the latest installment in the Metal Gear franchise, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, which is due for release later this year. I am not the only one who has said this, as countless other articles and reviewers have said it before me.
Good thing too, otherwise I would have never have played this title. I played and enjoyed Metal Gear Solid 4, but I still refuse to pay for something that works as a demo and as I stated, this is exactly what Ground Zeroes is. Granted however, it's a bloody good demo and does what any good game demo should do; tease the story, introduce you to the characters and also introduce you to the main gameplay mechanics.
Since the mission is primarily stealth focused, gameplay revolves around utilising stealth to kill or knock out enemies and progress further into the camp to extract the targets. Stealth gameplay has always been the backbone of the Metal Gear franchise and returning fans will appreciate the revamped and streamlined controls. Whilst stealth is encouraged as the primary method of gameplay, a slightly more action orientated approach is also accommodated for and is there to be utilised if the player wishes.
After playing it, I will say this; if The Phantom Pain can deliver what's seen in Ground Zeroes and more, well... I think it will be an extremely strong contender for game of the year.
Get it while you can!
