Child of Light is the newest release from Ubisoft Montreal, and is a platforming role-playing game set within a fantasy world. This studio is particularly known for developing renowned gaming franchises such as Assassin's Creed, Prince of Persia and - as of later this month - Watch Dogs, so this title was highly anticipated. Ubisoft crafts a unique experience in this fairytale-inspired story with bold artistic style, using the same in-house engine as their most recent and critically-acclaimed Rayman games.
Whilst the game is visually stunning and the story is engrossing, the gameplay can be a bit hard to get a handle on, especially in the unique single player mode. In single player you control both Aurora (your fighter) and Ignatius (your healer) with opposite sides of the controller, this can be hard to adjust to but gives you a lot of power when it comes to battles. What is truly fun is the Co-op mode, in which one player controls Aurora and the other Ignatius, it takes some coordination at first but after a few battles it is easy to read the other player and act accordingly.
This game is probably amongst the most beautifully crafted games I've played thus far. Over all, however, my favourite element of the game is that it ditches the fairy tale cliches of the past and tells a progressive story in which Aurora is the champion of her own story, instead of waiting to be saved.
