In the early hours of the night (here in the UK), during Nintendo’s world championship tournaments as one of the first events of this year’s E3, Nintendo announced that they would be releasing a localised version of the original Mother game onto the Wii U. Known more commonly in the west as the Earthbound series, only the second and third instalment were ever released west of Japan, known as Earthbound 1 and 2. If anything, this seems to have come much too late, since Ness from the series has been in every instalment of Super Smash Bros. to date, yet there has been no release of the first game in the series until now.

No graphics or sound have been updated, so it will be in all of its former glory. This means that the original, instantly-recognisable sprite art will be used, as well as the countless brilliant tracks in their 8-bit glory.
If you’ve never played an EarthBound game, this will be a great place to start – The characters are adorable and lovable and the story may well have you in tears. The writing, at least in its sequels, is hilarious at times, with silly and bizarre characters. Pick it up as soon as you can – It’s released tomorrow morning at 1:00am GMT!

Classic Nintendo Fun
There are some classics that should always be brought back and there are some games that really should be classed as a work of art. EarthBound just happens to both.
