Following a stumble on the official Game website where they inadvertently leaked some of the details, Warner Bros Interactive Studios decided to finally lift the veil on what Rocksteady have been working on in secret. Last year saw the release of the highly-anticipated Arkham Origins, which served as a disappointing prequel to both Arkham Asylum and its follow-up. The game fell short of expectations and didn’t expand on the franchise in any defining way. However everyone who knows anything about the game recognises that Rocksteady had little involvement in its production, and therefore it was always suspected that they might have a next-gen weapon hidden up their sleeve.
The teaser shows us no gameplay, as is the case with every other Arkham teaser trailer, but it looks as though Batman’s enemies are gathering for one final stand against the Dark Knight (perhaps in the wake of the Joker’s death). The narration by Bruce Wayne’s father also hints that there is something more personal to this journey than before, which is something that Arkham Origins hinted at with its Bruce/Alfred dynamic.
The game is described as the grand finale of the Arkham series and, although owners of the PS3 and 360 will be miffed that it is exclusive to only PS4 and Xbox One consoles, Arkham Knight will be coming to the PC as well.
The game will see a 2014 release date, and you can see the trailer for yourself below:
