Anticipated Games: inFAMOUS Second Son With so many new games being released over the next year, it can be hard to keep track of all of them. From Watch Dogs to Destiny, or The Order 1887 to Thief (and these are just a few). But within this article, I’d like to have a particular focus on a game, that even when the first trailer filled with Pre-Alpha, unpolished gameplay, it took my breath away. I am talking of the third game in its series: inFAMOUS Second Son. With the first two games proving to be marvellous, I without a doubt have the highest of hopes for this game.
By Stephen Hyland Anticipated Games: inFAMOUS Second Son With so many new games being released over the next year, it can be hard to keep track of all of them. Following the events of inFAMOUS 2, we will no longer be able to play as the electricity pumped Cole MacGrath, but instead we are faced with a completely new protagonist, fitted with unique and different powers to his predecessor: Delsin Rowe. Therefore, no longer do we have an electrified, likeable and friendly ex-messenger, but we now have a rather cocky, smoky (yes, that’s his power) (EN: Actually, that's only one of his powers. His actual power is to be able to mimic the abilities of other Conduits, so we actually have no idea what he's capable of yet) and brutal young man as our pivotal character. In addition to a fresh new and exciting character with unseen-before abilities, we also have an inexperienced setting of Seattle, Washington. Built from the ground-up by the developing studio Sucker Punch, we get to see the glistening (and rather wet) streets of a city that exists. Also implemented is a weather system that changes depending on cloud formation. This enables Seattle to be pouring with rain one second and with a heavy fog the next. In addition to these fantastic new features, we also have the chance to see clever pedestrian AI, taking shelter when the skies unleash a heavy shower of rain, or taking shelter when Delsin unleashes a heavy shower of armoured enemies…from the sky. Sucker Punch have integrated these changes to create an immersive experience for the gamer and re-envision the whole series which although is amazing, it has had some poor design choices (especially with pedestrians, I mean, have you seen their running animation?!). So now I’ve got the technical aspects covered and out of the way, let’s talk a bit about the plot. inFAMOUS Second Son takes place 7 years after the events of inFAMOUS 2 as we follow Delsin Rowe: a street graffiti artist with no real ambitions, nor sense of direction in life. One day, after witnessing a fatal bus crash Delsin decides to see if he can help in any way. When rescuing people from the now destroyed bus, he is exposed to a Conduit, somebody who has powers much like Cole did after the blast in Empire City caused by the Ray Sphere. By touching the Conduit, hidden powers awaken within Delsin. Meanwhile, a corrupt group named the “DUP” have taken control of major cities all across America, following the Empire City blast and the attack of The Beast. The Department of Unified Protection had its little anti-Conduit heart and soul dedicated to eliminating any Conduits and those who stood in their way. Once discovering his true power, Delsin sets off to destroy the DUP and those affiliated with it. So, with a new character, weather system, pedestrian AI system and fresh story, I can safely say that this game will be quite something. Being released onto PS3 and PS4 exclusively later this year (sorry X-Box), inFAMOUS Second Son is sure to please fans and newcomers alike. What do you think of the new addition to the series? Let us know down in the comment section. Goodbye for now.
