So, it’s getting close to that time, where the next gens become current gens. But, there’s something that you may have missed with all the Playstation 4 and X-box One(no) hype. The Ouya. Yep. That’s a thing. And apparently it’s supposed to be in the running with the big consoles up there. So, without further ado, let’s delve into the console that topped the amount of pre-orders for the X-box One. I love it already.
However, there are some upsides. One, being so small, this little machine would be really portable. While you might not be able to have a go on it on the train, it would be very easy to take it wherever you were going to. It’s not going to be as easy as carrying around a Vita in your pocket, but it’s much better than lugging your PS4 to your mate’s house.
Also, the system boasts the ability to make hardware adjustments as easy as simply taking it apart with a common screwdriver. No complicated unlocking mechanisms, just one handy tool. RAM can be updated, ROM, anything you can get your hands on you can put into this tiny machine until it’s upgraded for your optimum gaming needs, and without running the risk of somehow blowing the damn thing up.
The console also claims that every game will boast at least one free to play feature. This could come in the form of a free trial, a free level or even free DLC but it shall be free. This could be a good way of making sure that game developers aren’t quite as money grabbing (*cough* EA...) as some of the modern day giants.
Finally, what sounds really interesting and very exciting it will be much easier for developers to get a footing in the gaming world. Each game has with it a development feature, so that anyone can mod and improve on games, not to mention that the console also comes with a free development program that is both easy to use and effective. Combine this with the idea that there will be no development fees we should be seeing an explosion in the Indie games genre.
Overall, while I don’t believe that the console can really handle the pressure of competing with the console giant the PS4 (but it can clearly top the X-box One) I think it’s a significant step forward and a chance to look at what other things the gaming industry can offer up outside the basic gaming companies.
