LucasArts, originally known as Lucasfilm Games, Is a game company well known for making the Star Wars video games, as well as franchises such as Monkey Island and the Indiana Jones games. As with most game developers, however, they had very humble beginnings.
The 1995 game Star Wars: Dark Forces was the next Star Wars game to be made by LucasArts. As their first FPS, they created their very own engine for it that was unique at the time as it allowed the player to aim up and down as well. Otherwise, it was very similar to that of Doom and Wolfenstein. The Mac OS and DOS versions of the game were very good, however the Playstation version of the game had considerably inferior graphics as well as having some framerate issues. It’s sequel, Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II had vastly different gameplay, as the player is given the use of the force and a lightsaber as well as ammunition. Dark Forces II also has a multiplayer mode that allows up to 4 people to play together online, and up to 8 on a LAN. There is a Capture the flag mode and a deathmatch mode, allowing free-for-all or team games.
