With many of you still playing Arkham Knight, this is perhaps the best time to take a look back on it's predecessor and get all soppy and nostalgic; it's the grand-daddy of the Arkham Trilogy, the second tier in a three-stage evolution pokemon if you will; it was better than Arkham Asylum and laid the foundations for Arkham Knight, yes it can only be Arkham City.

The headline pretty much says it all really. During a Metrocon 2015 panel the voice of Uncharted series hero Nathan Drake explained, when asked whether he had any more projects at Naughty Dog, “Not yet, I know they’re doing The Last of Us 2”. As with any information regarding sequels or anything about gaming in general it’s always best to take it with a pinch of salt.

A lot of younger gamers were confused when Sony announced a Kickstarter project on their E3 stage this year, with the surprise reveal of Shenmue III. The series was short-lived and ended before many modern gamers were born, so why is it such a big deal? What is this Shenmue everyone is talking about?

FALLOUT 4 IS COMING, FALLOUT 4 IS COMING. THIS IS NOT A DRILL, I REPEAT, THIS IS NOT A DRILL. Any gamer worth their salt would have watched Bethesda announce the much anticipated installment in the Fallout franchise a few weeks before E3 this year. They would have also watched the E3 conference itself where Bethesda teased some gameplay and showcased some new features.

Rocksteady’s Arkham Asylum achieved something that no one thought was possible in 2009. Up until then superhero games tended to be average, at best and downright awful rest of the time. Rocksteady completely blew this trend out of the water with Asylum, which allowed gamers to play through a Batman story that was as good as any comic book page, together with gameplay that fulfilled all aspects of the Dark Knight’s character. This was implemented once again in Arkham City on a larger scale, and left us with an ending that truly made us want to know what happened next… Now, with Arkham Knight, we finally have an answer.

I wasn’t born in the 80s. That’s just one of the reasons why Calvin Harris detests me. I’m a 90s kid through and through. And as such, in the epic gaming battle between a certain plumber and a certain hedgehog, I was always rooting for the super-fast blue guy with the bad ass attitude. He was sleeker, he was faster, and he was just plain cooler. He was Sonic the Hedgehog.

Who’d win in a fight? It’s an age old question, stemmed from discussions in the playground as children. But, even as adults or adolescents, the question never simply ceases to exist. The curiosity burns brightly in the back of our minds; hiding, waiting for the moment to pose the question. For some, these fights can be shown, either on TV sets or through novels and video games; Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather for example, or The Mountain vs The Viper, or My Dad vs Your Dad.

It's Father's Day! And whilst gaming certainly has a diverse catalogue when it comes to fathers as protagonists, or even antagonists, we've narrowed down a list of our personal favourite father 'figures' from across the generations. What's interesting is that most on this list aren't actually biologically related to their in-game children, illustrating that a paternal bond can sometimes be much stronger than a blood bond. See for yourself. Oh, and spoilers ahoy!

This year's E3 has been a bit of a mixed bag. For some there were enough surprises and welcome announcements to make the whole thing worth while, while others struggled to find anything that would get them excited for the year to come. We asked our Games writers what their own thoughts were...

Following the hilariously disappointing Ubisoft and EA conferences, as well as the surprisingly good Sony conference, it was Nintendo’s turn to shine once again, with their digital event for E3. Considering last year’s fantastic lineup of the likes of Bayonetta 2, Splatoon and Hyrule Warriors, it would be pretty difficult to top. “well, did they top it then?” I hear you ask. Before I answer that, I think we’ll take a look at what they had to show us this year. |
