Over the past decade there has been one particular genre that has repeatedly dominated the gaming charts. In fact, it can even be claimed that the first-person shooter has defined the previous generation of consoles. As your usually silent protagonist cuts through hordes of enemies with automatic firearm, the genre's success has seen it remain steadfast in the ongoing console war. By Ben Mapp The release of Ubisoft's highly anticipated Watch Dogs back in May quite upset a few of our writers, myself included. We singled some of the most interesting. Only ten made the cut! Did yours? By Vanessa Hague The Nintendo 64 will always hold a special place in my heart. Is this due to the fact that the console marked Nintendo's first foray into 3D gaming? Could be. Is down to the now classic titles that were released in it's (roughly) six year lifespan? Maybe. And he said, ‘Let there be Light Warriors!’ And thus began one of the most critically acclaimed, influential, and best-selling video game franchises of all time. The beginning in this case was 1987, the year that the very first Final Fantasy game was released for the Nintendo Entertainment System. It is no exaggeration to say that gaming would never be the same again. Spanning generations, consoles, and a host of fantastical worlds, the story of Final Fantasy and its remarkable evolution is a story well worth recounting. |
