This week I decided to explore the namesake of this weekly feature, as the title “Straight on Till Morning” is a quote from the play Peter Pan, or The Boy Who Wouldn't Grow Up, and Disney created an animated film in 1953, based on the play and subsequent novels. The film follows the adventures of Wendy and her two brothers, John and Michael. Wendy often told her brothers fantasy stories before bed, and the all find themselves dragged into a fantasy story of their own, accompanying Peter Pan, the boy who never grew up, and his fairy friend Tinker Bell, to Neverland, where they meet the lost boys, the island’s Indians, mermaids and the pirates, led by Captain Hook. Hook is Peter Pan’s worst enemy and seeks to kill him for feeding one of his hands to a crocodile, and giving him his name. At the end of the film, Hook and his crew are chased off by the crocodile and Peter returns Wendy and her two brothers home.

In our case, however, there are literally pigs fucking. Day 4 of our 8 day feature-film shoot extravaganza is set at an upstate New York "hog farm." The "farm" is basically a hilly piece of land dotted with broken down trailers and trucks with 200 or so just-this-side-of-feral hogs roaming the land, eating all the greenery and getting it on whenever the urge strikes them, which based on eye-witness accounts is pretty much always. by Robbie Jones Films do many things. They make us laugh, cry, happy, angry, sad, excited, enriched, so many things. But the one thing they do best of all: they let us escape. Doesn’t matter how old you are, what you do for a living, if you have a family, if you have good friends, if you’re still in school, none of that matters. Because no matter who you, life can get a bit shit sometimes. It can get boring or leave you wanting more. That’s where films come in. Films are the doorway to new worlds that we inhabit for a few hours and forget our problems. And we watch certain characters and think “Oh God, why can’t I be them?”. Well, here I am to list the characters who I’ll bet most of you have wished to be at times, and I certainly know I have. by Liam McMillen Jon Favreau has had quite the diverse career. Starting in the indies and then taking on mega-blockbusters shows what a talented individual he is. You name it, Favreau can do it. Comedies, fantasy, action, superhero, sport, even Christmas films! Heck, he was even in Friends. They may not always hit, but over the years Favreau has created quite a credible back catalogue. With the release of Chef on the today let’s take a look at some of his best work. by Paul Costello This may seem like the kind of news we’re getting all too familiar with, where a cherished classic of the 80s has found itself on the current slate for a remake/reboot/re-imagining. In this instance, the classic in question is the 1987 actioner Predator, which studio 20th Century Fox has set to be rebooted for an as yet undetermined date. by Cookie N Screen If you ask me, there is a collection of actors around at the moment who are doing stellar things. One of them will always be James McAvoy for the impressive and visceral turn in Jon S. Baird’s Filth. The other would be Scarlett Johansson, a glorious heroine who can transform herself into every role. The final and most important one is Toby Kebbell. Vital because now I’ve said that name and a lot of you have shrugged, wondering exactly why this actor is garnering an article a month before his latest film. Yes, the Dawn of the Planet of the Apes movie is indeed upon us, but Kebbell is a vital, crucial and outstanding actor that you need to fall behind early as his star is rising. Let’s give you some education before all of that though. by Jo Johnstone Actor director Jon Favreau is most commonly known as the director of the first two Iron Man instalments. After reinvigorating one of Marvel's greatest heroes Favreau has turned his attention to a personal project, Chef, that sees him playing a chef rediscovering his love of cooking. The result proves that Favreau can transfer his talents from action to comedy. |
