by Gloria Daniels-Moss Oh yes the award season just keeps giving doesn’t it? With the Golden Globes and the BAFTA’s amongst others out the way, now it is time for the 86th Academy Awards! And you can’t get more exciting than the Oscars when it comes to an award ceremony. Every filmmaker, actor and writer dreams of having their name called out after that envelope is open. So here are the nominations followed by my prediction of whom should go home with the trophies. by Jo Johnstone Tim Burton is known for his love and dedication to stop-motion animation. With his tale of Jack Skellington being the first full length feature stop-motion film by an American studio his name is synonymous with the medium. After penning, (but not directing) The Nightmare Before Christmas, he co-directed the feature film Corpse Bride, about a wayward groom who accidentally marries a dead girl. Last year Burton released his first solo directed stop-motion feature Frankenweenie, about a boy who resurrects his beloved dead dog. Despite these three great stop-motion films for this months Movies in Motion we go back to a hidden Burton gem from his days as a Disney animator. by Hayley Charlesworth LGBT Month is winding down whilst the hype around homosexual BFI film festival Flare is hotting up. The film festival will kick off on the 20th of March, showcasing some of the greatest films of homosexuality, trans and more. Last week, writer Hayley picked her top ten gay movies films that you need to watch, looking at the beautiful relationships between man and man. This week, she turns to Lesbian movies and looks at love between woman and woman. |
