Being talented and celebrated in your own country is a phenomenal thing. It’s one of the most heart-warming aspects of being an artist (and I sound like I’m speaking from experience, I’m not at the moment but from watching home-grown talent give their heartfelt speeches, I can only imagine how it feels). It’s that stomach tingling feeling that the nation you love and have grown up with loves you. That sense of accomplishment that your family, friends and, oh yeah, entire country are 100% behind you must be a wonderful and brilliant experience.

So imagine if it’s not just your home country that you are excelling with – but a whole world.

Big Hero 6 - Review

Disney. Walt Disney. They are best known for their magic filled, fairytale inspired films. They’re usually filled with plummy songs, true love and a happy ending. Well, they do now, and they work well together, in Big Hero 6. The film marks Disney’s first animated film to feature characters from the Marvel Universe. From the same team that created Frozen and Wreck-It Ralph, here is a different sort of Disney film.

Inspired by the Marvel Comics team of the same name, Big Hero 6 tells of 14 year old Hiro (Ryan Potter). A young genius, he lives with his brother Tadashi, and their aunt Aunt Cass. While visiting Tadashi’s robotics lab, Hiro meets a personal healthcare robot named Baymax, which Tadashi has created. He encounters Tadashi’s friends, Go Go, Wasabi, Honey Lemon, and Fred. Along with Tadashi and co., Hiro is invited to show his brilliance at a festival and is accepted into the university that his brother attends. Shortly after, tragedy strikes on the campus of the university. Sadly, Tadashi is killed. Hiro, upon accidentally rebooting Baymax, realizes that his brother’s death was not accidental. Hiro, Baymax, and friends set out to find out who actually killed Tadashi and bring him to justice.

Mitch Cohen Is With Geek: Super Zero Interview

Here at I’m With Geek, we love our short films. Nay, we adore short films. We salute them on a regular basis. When one comes along that is a combination of all we love; a little bit of Firefly, mixed with The Walking Dead with an added dash of Kick-Ass, we can’t help but froth at the mouth. That short film is Super Zero – a phenomenal short film that is superbly executed and delivers many punches and excitement.

The story follows engineer Josh who receives a dreaded phone call: he is dying. After much contemplation, he has resigned himself to that fact and instead of living life to the fullest, he lounges around mulling over his misfortune. However, when a space rocket crashes back to Earth, it brings an extra-terrestrial virus along for the ride that turns the people into monsters the minute they come in contact with it. Josh, after be-friending a group of survivors including the love of his life, discovers that his machines make great weapons and his disease is an almighty plus.

Director Mitch Cohen has made a fantastic new film here, full of wit, adventure and action. Luckily for us, we were able to catch a few words with the upcoming director about his short film and his future projects.

If we had a dime for every reboot that is coming our way over the next couple of years then we’d probably be as rich as the studios peddling them. It seems that nothing is sacred from our pasts and much beloved shows, films and books are being updated for the new market. A market that is seemingly so patronised by Hollywood and it’s money laundering ways that we cannot go back to something old unless we slap a modern twist on it.

In very understandable ways, people have spent the past twelve hours in a bit of an outrage over this one: Ghostbusters.

Film News: Disney Want Chris Pratt for Indy Reboot?

It’s been 7 years since Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull came out. It received a lot of hate, but there have been talks of another Indy film ever since. But of course, it does have a lot of obstacles, the main one being that the man himself, Harrison Ford, is quite old now and likely unable to play the part any more. Or at least not in the way we know and love.

So what do you do when you’re main actor is too old? Why, you reboot it, of course!

The biggest disease that humanity has to suffer is humanity itself. Many people have been, and still are, losing their lives at the hands of other men. Some in an alarmingly high way, such as the recent attack in Niger where 3,000 men, women and children lost their lives. There’s an idea that remembering and educating people that generations have been lost due to power, corruption and the brutality of man. That idea is being forgotten. The blood of the people murdered during the Holocaust is still on the hands of this generation as is that of Slavery and ever wrongful killing in the name of prejudice.

Love Is Strange - Review

Love is one of those phenomenon’s that drags people closer together, unequivocally. It’s an emotive state that pairs or groups us off because we enjoy being surrounded by a particular set of humans. It’s taken us thousands of years, a few scientific studies and we are no closer to explain why this happens poignantly than we are flying to Jupiter. For all its weirdness, happiness and pain, love will always be a great mystery that is painted upon our cinema screens for years and will continue to do so centuries after we have passed. Because love is undeniably, wonderfully and magnificently strange.

As is this great film.

Shaun The Sheep - Review

From the creators of Wallace and Gromit, Chicken Run and that little fellow who played the trumpet in the Lurpak advert, comes Shaun the Sheep: The Movie. Yes Aardman, the clay-mation wizards. are back to bring an old favourite to the big screen. Shaun, that most lovable of sheep has leaped from TV for his first solo film outing.

Similar to Wallace and Gromit, in its progression from short to feature, the studio have managed to adapt a much loved character to a larger audience while staying true to its original tone. Also, like the studios previous works, Shaun is a brilliantly entertaining and loveable film.

The concept of the American dream gets put under the spotlight next with J.C Chandor's eagerly awaited follow up to his Oscar nominated film last year, All is Lost, starring Robert Redford. This time he has the cast of current times in Oscar Isaac who seems to be in the cinema each week solidifying him as already one of the most popular A-list actors around and nonetheless Star Wars: The Force Awakens will eventually make him a household name. Jessica Chastain who, for me, can do no wrong, is one of those quality actresses around and of course David Oleyewo who is currently receiving critical acclaim as Martin Luther King in The Oscar nominated Selma make this film brim with a tantalising cast.
