Welcome to the countdown of the BIGGEST MONEY MAKING FILMS OF ALL TIME -insert booming voice where necessary-. "Of all time?" you might be thinking, "Of all time is an awfully long time". Well then, you better sit down and get comfy, because we are going through over two decades of film to bring you the five biggest earning films EVER. There were several films however that missed out on the top five countdown, with the likes of The Lion King, Finding Nemo, Star Wars and Transformers, so kudos to those who produced these films, but I’m afraid you just didn’t quite make the cut.

So, with no further ado, let's begin with...

Last night the news broke that Zach Synder has cast Ben Affleck as Batman in the upcoming Batman/Superman movie. And yes, the world is wailing a collective "Nooo". Horrid memories surface as we all think about Ben Affleck and his Daredevil disaster. Fondly, we tear to shreds Affleck with Gigli and Matt Damon references. 

After a stellar performance from Bale, it was always going to be hard to top Nolan's efforts. But was Affleck the right choice? In the early hours, I too had many doubts. But as I churn over the news I think of Affleck from Dogma, Good Will Hunting, The Town and the impressive Argo! I also think of Daredevil, the directors cut. I am still unsure about Affleck as Batman, really unsure. But I bet he'd make a great Bruce Wayne!

Reading reviews for this movie, you might come across words such as “soft,” “cosy” and “like a duvet” followed by a two or three star review. After all, About Time comes from Britain’s leading romantic comedy guy, Richard Curtis. He gave the world proclamations of love in the rain, a girl just asking a boy to love her and perhaps the most watched Christmas movies to date. The master of romantic comedies, Curtis has practically wrapped the world in a cinematic loving embrace. With this new venture, he tightens the warmth. Is that a bad thing though? No, no it is not.

I can be very generous to films. Of all the films watched this year, there are none that I have scored lower than three stars due to them having some kind of redeeming feature. However, when you sleep on it, sometimes the flaws in films just become more and more obvious. And this morning, I woke up with a sudden hate for Warm Bodies.

Zombies are everywhere in this years rom-zom-com Warm Bodies. Following the apocalypse, R (Nicholas Hoult) is a zombie that does nothing more than wander around an abandoned airport with his fellow corpses. R remembers nothing of human self, and despite the fact he cannot talk, he treats us to a narration of his thoughts and feelings. One day, whilst out looking for food, R meets Julie (Teresa Palmer), the most beautiful girl he’s ever seen. He takes her hostage instead of eating her, and the two grow close, with his human life slowly returning to him. This would all be well and great if it wasn’t for the fact that her Dad (John Malkovich) is the leader of the rebellion set up to destroy the zombies.

Black Dynamite was one of those films that I found at just the right time. It arrived in 2009, just as I was starting my final year of university, in a year where I watched a lot of blaxploitation cinema for one of my film classes (getting to watch Blacula as part of a class on cinematic vampires? Awesome). It is, without a doubt, one of the most on-the-nose parodies of a genre I have ever seen, and one that is undeniably crafted with love.

Due to its limited release, I first saw Black Dynamite alone in an almost empty cinema, and was instantly saddened that such a comic masterpiece didn't have a bigger audience. That sadness disappeared with the very first scene, and so began a mere 84 minutes of unrelenting hilarity, the likes of which I have rarely seen outside of "so-bad-it's-good" staples like The Room or Birdemic.

2012 was a fantastic year for film. Whilst Ben Affleck was on a top secret mission, Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence danced into our hearts. As The Avengers assembled, Bond came back on top form. So when the Oscars came, there were a lot of tough decisions; many were torn for their choice of Best Film. Was it to be Zero Dark Thirty or Les Miserables? Django Unchained or Lincoln? In the end, Mr. Affleck came out on top with thriller Argo. I've been saying this for months: Argo was good but Lincoln should’ve taken home the trophy. As of this morning, my mind has changed completely.

I stood in CeX for a good 20 minutes, holding Life of Pi on Blu-Ray and wondering if I should buy it. “£10? That’s a better price than anywhere else. But what if I don’t like it? That’s £10 I could’ve spent on films I do like....” I thought as 20 minutes went by. Eventually, I bit the bullet and handed my money over the counter. To be fair, Gangster Squad was riskier buy and THAT was awesome. So this morning I thought it was about time I popped it in. Cup of tea, bowl of Shreddies, no one in the house - let’s do this.

Blair Witch is a phenomenon of a movie. The birth of “found footage” horror, Blair Witch scared the audience with its “ooo, this is a true story, so we are allowed to screen people’s deaths” garb that frightened everyone. Hushed video tapes and DVD’s were passed around schools, people were crying and screaming in the theatre and others never trusted the woods again. Made on a shoe string budget, Blair Witch is an outstanding independent movie that sent shock-waves globally and scared everyone.

This is not that movie. This is the sequel that ditched the found footage shtick in favour for a glossier narrative that ultimately failed on every level. Well... nearly every level.

Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2 is about as predictable as they come. Following in the footsteps of the victims of the first film, a group of hunters including a, *ahem*, Goth Psychic and Wiccan go on the search for the mythical spectre. Going to camp in the woods, they are disappointed that they have picked up nothing. After sending off another group of tourist after something “horrifying,” the leader, Jeff, takes the group to an abandoned broom factory (that is no mistake, my friends). There, our group starts disappearing one by one as something wicked their way comes.
