by Robbie Jones Jason Segel is a hero of modern comedy. From his hilarious role as Marshall Eriksen in the in the much loved How I Met your Mother to various film roles like Forgetting Sarah Marshall, The Muppets, and I Love You, Man, he’s proven himself to be one of the funniest actors working today. Cameron Diaz, whilst not everyone’s favourite, has proven in the past she can do comedy to a good standard (See: Bad Teacher. Don’t see: What to Expect When You’re Expecting), so the pairing of these two seems like a good idea on paper. But apparently, JUST on paper. by Robbie Jones Melissa McCarthy is one of the most disappointing actresses in Hollywood right now. She is talented – She’s an Oscar nominee for God sake – But she doesn’t use that talent, because she plays the exact same character in every single film that she makes, and Tammy is no exception. In fact, looking at these clips, Tammy might just be every film she’s ever made rolled into one big mess. by Robbie Jones Today is Canada Day, and as part of our celebrations, we thought we’d take a look at perhaps Canada’s funniest export: Jim Carrey. Now, Jim Carrey is my favourite actor of all time. That might sound odd compared to who people usually choose but it’s true. And if I could, I’d put most of his filmography as essentials. But for now, we’ll slim it down, and present to you the best films of his career. Some honourable mentions here to his side splitting comedies The Mask, Bruce Almighty, Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls and his severely underrated 1996 film The Cable Guy. Also, a quick nod to his underrated and underheard of 2001 masterpiece, The Majestic, in which he gives one of the best performances of his life. by Robbie Jones Liam Neeson, undoubtedly one of the best action stars of recent years. All you have to do to be successful is put him on the poster holding a gun and your film will make millions. Of course, it’s not all he’s capable of, having taken a range of roles over the years, from a lion in The Chronicles of Narnia,to a Parisian fugitive in Les Miserables, an Irish gunslinger in A Million Ways to Die in the West, and a Greek God in Clash of the Titans. The man has range, and is perhaps one of the most talented actors working today. His new film, Non-Stop is out on DVD and Blu-Ray now, and to celebrate, we’re gonna take a look at some of his best films. by Robbie Jones Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few years, you have no doubt heard of the TV program Mrs. Brown’s Boys, a comedy starring Brendan O’Carroll as Agnes Brown, the Irish matriarch of her family. The show, adapted from various stage plays and radio shows written and performed by O’Carroll in the 1990s, has become a massive hit, as made evident by the upcoming film release, Mrs. Brown’s Boys: D’Movie. To celebrate the release, we’re going to take a look at the history of men dressing as women in cinema. by Robbie Jones Films do many things. They make us laugh, cry, happy, angry, sad, excited, enriched, so many things. But the one thing they do best of all: they let us escape. Doesn’t matter how old you are, what you do for a living, if you have a family, if you have good friends, if you’re still in school, none of that matters. Because no matter who you, life can get a bit shit sometimes. It can get boring or leave you wanting more. That’s where films come in. Films are the doorway to new worlds that we inhabit for a few hours and forget our problems. And we watch certain characters and think “Oh God, why can’t I be them?”. Well, here I am to list the characters who I’ll bet most of you have wished to be at times, and I certainly know I have. |
