If you’re in a relationship, Valentine’s Day is the day where you declare how much you love your significant other, because for some reason you can’t show the same amount of love for the other 364 days of the year. But if you are single like me, Valentine’s Day is a real bitch. At this time of year, everything is covered in red, pink, flowers, chocolates, harps, half-naked babies with bow and arrows, hearts, love songs and a lot of other overpriced romantic shit (I’m not bitter). But the worst for me is the influx of romantic films like Dear John and The Notebook and basically nearly anything starring Channing Tatum or Ryan Gosling. The problem is that Valentine’s Day promotes love and romance, but for people who don’t have that there isn’t a lot on offer… until now!
Because about half of my film collection is alternative rom-coms, I am presenting my top 5 alternative films to watch this Valentine’s Day.

Ruby Sparks
Forgetting Sarah Marshall

Valentine’s Day nowadays is considered the day to shower your significant other with gifts and romance to show them how much you love them. But really it’s a day for the things you love. So if you have a girlfriend/boyfriend or you’re married, show them love but don’t forget to show the same amount of love for the rest of the year. And for all my fellow singletons, surround yourself with things you love, friends, family or even a great film to take your mind off the day. Just remember, this is not a day to feel depressed, this is a day to remind you what and/or who is most important in your life.
Happy Valentine’s Day Everyone!
