Lessons Learnt, is an inspiring British short film written by Tara – Jayne Manufor, created and directed by Ja Ja Soze, Inch – I Cream Cartel and UKOverstood. This British short film was previously released on YouTube, May 20th, 2012, generating over 40, 000 viewers. The plot involved a young boy named Malcolm, who in his early teens decides to skip school in order to make money from the streets. However, he encounters a number of individuals who tries to guide him into the right direction. Though Malcolm isn’t streetwise, he is strongly desperate to make money and crossed a group of men who offer him money for a small favour
As time elapse, Malcolm is yet caught up in a dilemma of his own; a group of (boys) teens decides to interrogate him just because they are not too familiar with him. Malcolm is then saved by a bystander who interferes and takes him under his wing.. But Malcolm is still conflicted between the gang and his new path.
Instead of seeking education, Malcolm is more concerned on making money. The film teaches many youths that there is actually a lesson to learn; a life with our own choices and that knowledge, in fact, is the key to success. This inspirational film gives youths the opportunity to understand the causes that many face if they decided not to go down that route pf education. Although the short film is about 27 minutes, the cast are fantastic starring great names such as: Skwilla Da Gorilla, Dubz, Krept, Pane, Yards, Ghost, Babs, Ard Adz, Shallow, Dru Blue, Bridie and Ja Ja Soze.
Overall, the film gives many youths a platform to understand the balance between financial gain and education. Though people may lead different lives, learning from it is all that matters.
