That is the first thing that is going to come from your lips after watching this trailer. Be it in whatever context you want but there is no doubt that your head will be left spinning after the teaser for Jonathon Glazer’s Under The Skin. Glazer, by the way, is more well-known for his movies Birth and Sexy Beast which are undeniable tour de forces in cinema despite not pulling in major crowds. And I urge you right now to go check them out because, while both have complete different topics and feels, they are on equal levels of disturbance and intrigued; meaning you simply cannot you’re your eyes of them.
Under The Skin feels just like that. Starring Scarlett Johansson and based on Michael Faber’s novel of the same name; the film is about an alien who comes to our planet to prey on innocent hitchikers under the instructions of a larger cooperation. That, for those unaware of the novel, is as far as we know. And as it tours, all we know is, reaction wise, it is supposed to be completely mystifying.
Billed as “part road movie and part sci-fi” Under The Skin is slowly making the rounds through the film festivals and this short collection of shots is a tell-tale sign that the elusive picture will sit uncomfortably (but brilliantly) with film lovers for years to come. Seriously, watch it a few time and it may already seem to be the visual feast we can expect. There is the eerie feel, unsettling and that could be pure genius.
Feels more like a film for cult lovers (so I, being Cookie N Screen, adore it already) and not one that the entire family will enjoy.
But please, do as I did;
watch it repeatedly.
Under The Skin is release March 14
