Unbroken tells the true story of Louis Zamperini (Jack O’Connell), who sadly passed away earlier this month. It tells the story of how he went from an Olympic track star to a survivor, following a plane crash in the Pacific, spending 47 days adrift on a raft, and then two and a half years at several Japanese POW camps.
As you can imagine, the film looks horribly cliched, but with a story like this, it’s hard not to. The cast are all relatively unknown, which means that hopefully some new talent will be brought forward to the acting game. Visually, the film looks good, too. Hopefully that’s proof that Jolie has some directing talent in her. It may look cheesy, but Unbroken could prove to be the most inspirational film of the year, and hopefully be a worthy testament to the man’s amazing accomplishments.
