Coming from the director of the superb Animal Kingdom (David Michod,) The Rover tells the story of a hardened loner Eric (Pearce) who sweeps the Austrailian outback, fending for himself. The rise of anarchy has spread globally, leaving the price of life cheap and desolate. When a gang finds him and steals his care, his only possession left, they leave behind their lowly and often dim witted brother Rey (Pattinson.) Not one to let things lie, Eric forces Rey to buddy up with him and hunt down the gang for his car back, teaching a valuable lesson to all; “there is nothing more dangerous than a man who has nothing.”
The stage has been set for Michod’s The Rover to be one of the hottest dramas of this year. With the incredible acting talents of Pattinson and Pearce combined, this trailer gives weight to a gritty, if not brilliant, piece. This trailer has enough to not only intrigue but slowly obsess over. Not only showcasing some violent scenes, Michod has set up a disturbingly realistic future that is only ten years down the line. One that could happen tomorrow, next week or next month.
The Rover is going to be unmissable. Out August 22nd!
