The trailer also sees the introduction of Hassan Kadam (played by Manish Dayal), who seems to be on the path to romance with one of Mallory’s budding chefs. Om Puri is in his element as Papa, the head of the household who refuses to be beaten by Mallory and wants to beat the odds and bring the tastes and culture of his homeland to the people of France.
You’d be forgiven for at first thinking this was one of those dire culinary revenge films where they poison each others’ food, but it’s clear from the trailer that this is not the case, and the movie seems to have multiple depths and some heart to it, in addition to its passion around food. Similar in tone to The Exotic Marigold Hotel, the film looks as if it will inspire emotions as well as appetites, with a back-story surrounding Mallory lurking in the wings.
Set for release by Touchstone Pictures, The Hundred-Foot Journey will get its big screen debut on the 8th of August in the USA and the 12th of September in the UK.
