Starring Patrick Wilson as an outer-space Ron Burgundy and surrounded by Liv Tyler, Matt Bomer and Marisa Coughlan, the films is set in a '70s version of what the future would look like. Space Station 76 follows a group of humans and robots living in the space station and finding things slightly meddled with upon the arrival of the new Assistant Captain.
"When a new Assistant Captain arrives, she inadvertently ignites tensions among the crew, prompting them to confront their darkest secrets. Barely contained lust, jealousy, and anger all bubble to the surface, becoming just as dangerous as the asteroid that’s heading right for them."
By watching the trailer below, it becomes clear that the movie is simply taking the piss out of the futurism of the 1970s; complete with space stations, tiny robot servants, and ofcourse a helping of sex. In Space Station 76, people smoke, do yoga, and have alcoholic beverages brought to them by droids.
This is more carefully created than you might expect. The trailer seems to provide its audience with some great set and costume design on top of some dialogue, which definitely has the potential to be really funny. Which is of course crucial for such a spoof genre.
It's Anchorman, meets 2001: A Space Odyssey. Sony will be distributing the film but no release date has been set as of yet. So let's hope the upcoming movie Space Station 76 lives up to the completely unfounded expectations we’ve created for it. Welcome to the future of the past.
