You can’t live with them, can’t make a movie without them. That being said, it is rest assured that the hype around teeny bopping movie Twilight has well and truly ebb. Not that the influx of Young Adults movies haven’t tried to cling on to the supernatural and generate an equally passionate fanbase with how many different love triangles they can churn out (let’s casually just say that The Hunger Games isn’t on that list because frankly, it meets none of that criteria.) We are all sick of it, especially those fanged fiends.
That being said, Only Lovers Left Alive is a brand new kettle of vampires that harken back to the good ol’ days of Interview with The Vampire and The Lost Boys. Bringing Dracula back to the campy, sexy and ultimately terrifying heights that we have so sorely missed, Only Lovers Left Alive stars everyone’s favourite Tom Hiddleston and Tilda Swinton as Adam and Eve, undead lovers whose affair and marriage has carried over centuries. Adam is now a rock musician who has a certain level of disdain of humans and their activities. He is reunited with his enigmatic lover but their ideals are soon disrupted by her little sister (Mia Wasikowska.) Can their love survive the antics?
Only Lovers Left Alive looks intriguing with a hedonistic look into the vampires who have become apathetic with the world they have inhabited. The fear hear is that director Jim Jarmusch will abandon depth for looks because frankly, it looks stunning. That being said, there is actual fear here and it looks scary, beautiful and with two incredible strong leads such as Hiddleston and Swinton, nothing can go really wrong, can it?
Only Lovers Left Alive is out 21st of February
