The trailer shows how Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), later known as ‘Star-Lord’, ended up worlds away from Earth as a child. It also introduces us to the expansive universe but this time with a much more serious tone. Important plot elements are at last revealed, such as a galactic enforcement agency warning of ‘an unstoppable threat’ to the lives of twelve billion people, which only the newly-united Guardians can prevent. We get glimpses of an explosive space battle, as well as some kind of invasion taking place across various settings. More interestingly, the trailer reveals more about the forming relationships between Quill and his team mates, Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax (Dave Bautista), Rocket (Bradley Cooper) and Groot (Vin Diesel).
The film takes place within the same cinematic universe as Avengers Assemble, marking the third time where much of the action takes place somewhere other than Earth (following on from Thor and Thor: The Dark World), although this is the first time that these characters have ever been portrayed on the big screen.
