Whilst the first trailer didn’t tell you much, this one gets into far more detail with the plot. Nick Dunne (Ben Affleck) is left distraught after the disappearance of his wife Amy (Rosamund Pike). However, despite all his campaigning and help with the police, he eventually becomes the number one suspect, and then becomes “the most hated man in America”. The trailer explores Nick’s interviews with the press, an old friend of Amy’s (Neil Patrick Harris), the press and police’s suspicions. We even hear entries from Amy’s diary (which is one of the chapter layouts from the actual book) that paint a dark picture of Nick, and sparks all suspicion in the first place.
The film looks phenomenal; the level of fear and uncertainty in this trailer alone is immense. Ben Affleck is a fine actor when he wants to be, and Rosamund Pike is always great. You can tell from a mile off it’s a Fincher film; the style is immediately recognisable, and will be a treat to watch.
Fans of the book will be full of excitement and intrigue (especially considering the author as confirmed the film deviates and the story won’t be told the same way), whilst the rest of us get ready for another Fincher masterpiece.
Gone Girl is out October 3rd.
