Based on the incredible life story of the Godfather of Soul, the film will give a courageous look inside the music and moves of Brown, taking the viewers from his disadvantaged childhood to his evolution into one of the most influential figures of the 20th century.
Taylor has recruited some of the cast from The Help to assist in his new production also. Viola Davis is Brown’s negligent mother who we saw walking out on her family in the trailer, while Brown was only a boy. And Octavia Spencer portrays his aunt who helps take care of him.
Getting his big break playing another famous historical figure (Jackie Robinson in 42), Chadwick Boseman brings Brown to life here. And he’s surrounded by Nelson Ellis, Jill Scott, Tika Sumpter, Dan Aykroyd, Lennie James and Craig Robinson.
In this promo clip, the viewers are informed that Brown made it to superstardom without his mother, who only returns in his life once he has achieved success. The film seems to focus on Brown’s earlier career where he was creating such unforgettable and remarkable music, but maybe also seeming to shy away from his more troublesome past.
Whatever the history, we are sure that the amazing James Brown will be coming to cinemas everywhere in a shiny suit this summer. The film is set for release on August 1st.
