Two decades after the hilarious events of the first film and Harry visits his best friend Lloyd in some sort of psychiatric hospital, where Lloyd has been left in a mentally and physically unfit state (and wheelchair bound) after not being able to get over Mary. We soon learn that the entire thing has been one long elaborate prank played out by Lloyd, and the two agree that it was a very well planned out and executed. The two then reconcile and we are given an insight into the film’s overall plot. Harry finds out from an ex girlfriend that he has an estranged daughter, and he and Lloyd go on a road trip to find her. While Harry intends to play the role of father figure, Lloyd falls for a picture of her – creating a rift between the two of them during their journey. Of course, things don’t go to plan and the two end up severely sidetracked – even visiting an elderly relative of Lloyd’s in her nursing home, where she manipulates him into performing an ungodly act on her in the presence of his friend (although neither of them seem aware of it).
The trailer alone pays special tribute to the iconic of the first film, through tidbits of dialogue as well as the return of Harry and Lloyd’s canine-shaped van.
Dumb and Dumber To will hit theatres at Christmas this year.
