Yes. The minute the gruff Michael Keaton vocalisation over himself seemingly floating in mid-air with saying “smells like balls” and it’s instantaneous love. The trailer follows Riggan Thomson, an actor who found fame (and still does) playing superhero Birdman. Trying to break away from this limelight, he takes up a part on a Broadway play. But it may be causing more harm than good as he struggles with his mentality.
Again, the dark comedy element is clear here. Mixing the humorous with the utterly drab, Birdman (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) is yet again a film about egos clashing with reality. Director Alejandro González Iñárritu has already infused intrigue yet developed it into more of a story in this enticing trailer. It looks fucking insane and visually stunning with a cast that includes Edward Norton, Emma Stone and more. Complex, compelling and with some hilarious moments (that will be more like watching a drunk man unravel,) Birdman could genuinely be the best film of the year.
But what is this bullshit? August 17th sees the US release with Venice being screened in August 27th. Britain, however, will have to wait until January 2015 to see it.
That’s as bad as balls….
