Through the events of The Conjuring, we learnt that a seven year old girl named Annabelle Higgins had taken a liking to a doll whilst lonely only to later die in the apartment. Instantly, we have tingles down our spines. Though deceiving, the doll was not in the middle for the events of the first movie... but now the doll takes centre stage so all those afraid of demonic dolls can sleep easy. Not.
The fact that Annabelle, the doll, has a history before it ended up in the Ed and Lorraine Occult Museum makes us both terrified and eager to know more about what this evil doll got up to. The premise is perfect. A married couple with their first baby on its way set up their nursery with Annabelle as part of their decoration. Yet when an intruder mysteriously caresses the doll, only to wind up dead, the blood seems to mix with the magic of the doll and Annabelle soon becomes possessed. Or is there something more sinister going on?
With James Wan producing Annabelle, there will be a long line of horror fans waiting to be entranced and petrified by the wooden fiend. Similar to films such as Chucky or Dead Silence, both with great gore, humour and wit, Annabelle is now to assume the throne of the scary doll horror. Sequels can be great, but prequels can be even better these days, especially focusing on the scariest and most alluring part of the film.
From this trailer, it looks like Annabelle will be a serious hit, possibly even more successful than it's predecessor.
