Axe wielding bluesman Jimi Hendrix makes it to the big screen for his first major biopic. Jimi is portrayed by Andre Benjamin (a.k.a Andre 3000) in the new movie All Is By My Side that also features Imogen Poots and Hayley Atwell as the women that played a significant role in Hendrix’s route to fame.
Shot in Dublin, Ireland the film is set in 1967 focusing on Hendrix’s pre-fame days as a struggling musician trying to carve out a career in the big smoke (London).
Hendrix’s influence on the music scene was massive and this is a great way to honour his legacy. Sadly though, due to no agreement being made with the Hendrix estate, the music that had such an impact on rock and pop culture will not be featured in the film. Instead, the movie will show Benjamin re-enacting famous versions of classics such as Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, Wild Thing and Hound Dog.
John Ridley (who won an Oscar on 12 Years A Slave) writes and directs the new film All Is By My Side which is rumoured to be released in the UK on the 8th of August and in the US on the 26th September.
