A Chechen Muslim illegally immigrates to Hamburg, where he gets caught in the international war on terror. Hoffman plays the hard drinking leader of an anti-terrorism group, alongside Willem Dafoe and Rachel McAdams (Ugh), who have all clearly been brushing up on their German accents.
The film has already been successful at the Sundance Film Festival, but it doesn’t see release here until September, which is a shame considering it look so good. It has the same feel of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy to it, with echoes of the TV show Homeland as well. It has a promising cast, an interesting concept and has a promising background with its acclaimed author. Let’s hope director Anton Corbijn has brought to a life a thrilling espionage film rather than a poor literary adaption.
A Most Wanted Man is released 5th September (UK)
