The first clip, titled “German Cottage” will definitely fuel the fire of anticipation for the release of the film this coming Friday (of course I shall be going to see it on its release date.) The clip takes place in the home of a German family. The man of the house is questioned to find out if he can help to locate where Hitler has been smuggling the art to. Preston Savitz, one of the Monuments Men, takes a keen interest in the paintings hung on the walls of the German house. The man claims that the paintings are fakes, and informs them that as he was an ex-SS soldier he was knowledgeable and would help them in any way. After Savitz examines some artwork that is hung in the German house, it is discovered that the paintings were real, not fakes. Savitz comments “Heil Hitler” to which the two German children stand up and chant “Heil Hitler back.” It’s obvious that this man is not a very trustworthy source for information concerning where Hitler is taking the artwork.
It’s been recited time and time again that there is great confidence for this film because of its star-studded cast and production team. But The Monuments Men is set to be one of those true-to-real-life films that are both educational and entertaining, and not just appreciable because of its cast. With the great screenplay writer Grant Heslov on side, based on real-life events written by Robert M. Edsel and Bret Witter, this film is set to be a storm on the front line of film.
