The essence of the film and the story on which it is based on is pretty powerful, as we are darkly reminded of the horrible things the government did to a man who served his country during World War II, simply because of his sexuality. With such strong subject matter, and having topped the Annual Black List for best unproduced Hollywood scripts in 2011, The Imitation Game could potentially be a powerful film for not only audiences, but also the actors who take on the roles. This latest outing could see Benedict Cumberbatch putting in a fine performance (perhaps even Oscar worthy?) as Turing, whilst Knightley portrays Joan Clarke, a former fiancée of Turing. The dashing Charles Dance also takes on a role as Cdr. Alastair Denniston, which no doubt audiences will be pleased to see, after his recent departure from Game of Thrones.
In the recently released stills, we can see Knightley and Cumberbatch taking on their roles as Clarke and Turing, respectively, whilst the latter handles a mysterious piece of paper – what could it be? In another still, also demonstrating his undying love for papier, is Cumberbatch again as Turing, whilst Charles Dance’s Denniston stands alongside him, with Mark Strong (who portrays Stewart Menzies) standing ominously in the background.
The Imitation Game is set for release in the United Kingdom on the 14th November later this year, whilst the film debuts in the United States on the 21st November.
