Perhaps one of the more tentative announcements recently was the Steven Spielberg adaptation of The BFG. Why? Because a lot of us Brits had our own amazing version with The BFG voiced by the legendary David Jason and we refuse to believe that someone else will be “refreshing” the part. It’s like a travesty of our childhood. Not to mention the book was phenomenal and somehow a big budget American version doesn’t seem to fit into our ideals. That being said, the announcement of the new voice cast and Walt Disney taking control, it’s safe to say we are a little more than excited.
With Disney at the helm, guiding Spielberg, and having the likes of Hader and Clement lending their comedic talents to characters, both of which have had successes in bringing animated children films too and know exactly what to do to bring the characters to life. Also, Spielberg sounds passionate about what he is doing, saying he is excited about working with the company. It’s good to see a director - who has done so much for so long - still beaming with glee about projects.
Of course, we have to wait until 2016 till we get the product, but still - it is thrilling!
